Webcam Horace. "The bridge under the bridge."
The town of Goražde is located in the southeastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Drina River. It is located at an altitude of 345 meters on Mount Jahorina in a valley, which was formed by the erosion of the Drina River. The mountain itself is famous as a beautiful ski resort. Gorazde played not a small role in the history of Bosnia, because in ancient times, it was part of the most important route that went from the sea to the mainland. Needless to say, the locals were quite wealthy citizens, as the most valuable goods passed through them.
Today, the city has also remained part of an important transport artery for the country of southeastern Bosnia. Tourists and Bosnians often transit through this city.
There is an unusual monument to the 1992-95 war in Gorazhd. You wouldn't notice it if you didn't know it. It's called "The Bridge Under the Bridge," and it really is a bridge under a bridge. The fact that you can't see it is very good. That was the idea - no one should see this bridge, so that the inhabitants of Gorazde can safely cross from bank to bank of the Drina. Because when you walk across the upper bridge, you're a great target for a sniper.
The idea of crossing the river not over the bridge, but under the bridge came to Selver Siercic, who was then in charge of transportation in Gorazhd. The iron bridge was excellent protection from bullets and splinters, practically armor. A light metal structure was suspended beneath it and paved with planks brought from a nearby construction site and protected with nets against pedestrians falling into the water. The materials were moved at night and the work was also done at night.
On the right bank near the ramp leading to the under-bridge bridge, there is a memorial plate and one more curious object. This is the electric generator, which was put on the Drina River to make the water turn the blades. There was no electricity, fuel was in short supply too, and the bright minds found such a solution.
