Halle (Halle) — a city in Germany, the largest in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, the university center. The first settlements appeared here due to the good location and salt deposits. The word "halle" itself is believed to be of Celtic origin, and means "places rich in salt". Salt determined the fate of the city: on the one hand, it always managed to remain prosperous and rich thanks to this vital spice; on the other, the development of the salt industry eventually received a logical continuation — chemical plants were concentrated here during the GDR years, and this had a very detrimental effect on the entire region.
