Misano Adriatico is a nice little town in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located 120 km from Bologna and 14 km from Rimini. Misano is considered a great place for holidays with children and is famous for its landscapes, clean sea and good service.
The archaeological excavations that have been carried out in the surroundings of Misano show that the first settlement here was founded in the era of ancient Rome. At that time, military veterans and others who had distinguished themselves in the service of the Roman Empire settled here. Later on, Misano shared much of the history of neighboring Rimini.
In the 10th century, the church of Sant'Erasmo was built here, now considered one of the oldest religious buildings in Emilia-Romagna. From 1295 until the end of the 16th century, the town was ruled by the Malatesta family who built a castle, of which, unfortunately, only ruins remain. After the Malatesta, Misano, like Rimini, became part of the Papal State and remained part of it until the unification of Italy in the 19th century. In those years, the city was called Villa Vittoria, and was renamed Misano Adriatico only in 1938 by order of Mussolini.
Among the tourists vacationing in Misano Adriatico, excursions on the ship "Queen Elisaneth" are very popular - during the day it cruises between the seaside towns, and in the evening offers to enjoy folk music and dancing.
If you wish, you can go on excursions to the neighboring towns of Rimini, Urbino, Gradara, Ravenna or to the more distant (by Italian standards) Bologna, Ancona, Florence and Venice.
Misano Adriatico is ideal for family vacations, as the sea here is shallow, the sandy beaches, stretching for 3 km from the river Conca to the river Rio Alberello, are very spacious, and lifeguards work almost around the clock. Since 1987, the local beaches have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for the cleanliness and quality of the waters.
In the evening you can stroll along the embankment, lit with bright lights, or through the city parks and squares, buried in verdure and the scent of flowers. Good restaurants, bars and sports clubs are located in the Portoverde area. And in Misano Monte is one of the most popular discotheques.
