Orenburg itself bore the name of a Hero of the Soviet Union from 1938 to 1957.
Monument to Valery Chkalov in Orenburg is a six-meter bronze sculpture, which is installed on a seven-meter pedestal. It is clearly visible from a great distance.
The sculptor depicted Chkalov after he completed his responsible flight. The pilot just got off the plane, he is proud of the knowledge of his accomplished duty and, despite his fatigue, ready to perform any new task of the Motherland.
By the way, it is interesting that Valery Chkalov himself has never been to Orenburg. However, in 2016 his great-grandson Igor Chkalov visited the city, who together with his father runs the V.P. Chkalov Memorial and Charitable Foundation "International Chkalov Foundation".
