The camera is installed at the German polar station Neumayer 3 (Neumayer III) in Antarctica.
On February 20, 2009, the new German research station in Antarctica, Neumeier 3, began its work. The Neumeier-3 station was built by the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar Research and the Helmholtz Society, and its service life – as a result of the new construction principle – is estimated to be between 25 and 30 years.
